What is the Role?

Bring your passion for discovery to Coney Island Prep as our High School Science Teacher. We are especially seeking educators with experience teaching Physics. In this role, you will teach 11th and 12th grade scholars, including 1-2 sections of Physics aligned to the NYS Regents exam and 2-3 sections of Conceptual Physics. You will create rigorous, engaging learning experiences through hands-on experiments and inquiry-driven instruction, helping scholars connect scientific concepts to their lived experiences. Our Physics Teacher empowers scholars to make sense of the world through motion, energy, forces, and the universe. They design and deliver standards-aligned instruction that centers scholar thinking and engagement. This educator prioritizes discourse, conceptual understanding, and scholar ownership of learning, using data to adjust instruction and ensure all scholars master grade-level content. As part of the Science Team at Coney Island Prep, they foster curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence, preparing all scholars for success in college-level coursework.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

Implement standards-aligned curriculum and content

On a daily basis, teach academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments, and differentiate as needed

Communicate effectively with all scholars, their families, and staff

Commit to a culture of consistently implementing school-wide systems, structures, and procedures

Eradicate the effects of racism, poverty and other forms of oppression in our school community by making resources, opportunities, support systems, and classrooms equitable and accessible for all our stakeholders.

Analyze and action plan using instructional and culture data to improve teaching practice and strengthen student outcomes

Be proactive in creating a positive, structured, results-oriented, and fun learning environment that supports the needs of students with various abilities and experiences

Participate in school community responsibilities such as lunch duty, dismissal and hallway duties, daily homeroom, bi-weekly advisory groups, weekly content and grade team meetings, whole-staff professional development, lesson internalization and practice, and office hours once a week

Bachelor's degree and NYS teaching certification required, Master’s degree strongly preferred; we offer $2,000 towards the completion of a Master’s degree and NY State certification within two years of employment

Culturally responsive and age appropriate conflict resolution skills

Proven organizational, oral, and written communication skills; timeliness; accuracy; and consistent and regular communication; and ability to meet deadlines

Who are we?

Coney Island Prep High School is a college preparatory, public charter high school located in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn and is the first charter school located in Community School District 21. Founded in 2013, CIPHS enrolls approximately 350 students in grades 9-12, with 75 students in the senior class. Since its first graduating class in 2017, every CIPHS senior graduates with college acceptances in hand. Scholars dive into a rigorous curriculum rich with AP courses, College and Career Readiness classes, all in a supportive, small-school environment with extracurricular opportunities from sports to enrichment clubs and leadership opportunities. CIPHS seniors are eligible for coverage of college expenses and financial support ensuring that over 80% of students attend college for free.
