Hourly wage: $21.91 – $29.96 (non‑PERS)

Job Description

The Oregon Youth Authority is seeking a dedicated and skilled temporary part‑time Cook to join our team at the Camp Florence Youth Transition Facility. In this role, you will provide nutritious, balanced meals for the youth we serve. Responsibilities include food preparation, ensuring meals meet dietary requirements, and maintaining high standards of food safety. A key aspect involves direct interaction with youth, supervising and training them in cooking and kitchen tasks while preparing and serving meals.

Additional duties include record‑keeping of meal inventories and tracking food supplies.

Top Duties of the Position

  • Supervise and train youth in the preparation of meals, food safety, sanitation, and usage of kitchen tools.
  • Prepare and cook nutritious and appealing meals from OYA menus and standardized recipes.
  • Perform daily cooking tasks using a variety of kitchen equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year experience as a cook in a food service facility OR possession of a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts and/or Foods and Hospitality Service from a certified community college or technical school.

Special Qualifications

This position requires a food handler’s card and must obtain the appropriate county food handler’s card within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions

  • Use of computer and USDA approved software for menu development and recipe standardization.
  • Use of reasonable force in the performance of duties or during an emergency may be required.
  • Physical requirements for vision, hearing, dexterity, push/pull, running, and jogging.
