Job Summary
SMART Academy is seeking a passionate, student-centered 4th–6th Grade Math Teacher who is committed to helping every student achieve academic success while fostering confidence, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for mathematics. The ideal candidate believes all students can learn at high levels and creates an engaging, supportive classroom where students are challenged, encouraged, and inspired.
The Math Teacher will deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction using SMART Academy's adopted curriculum, analyze student data to drive instruction, collaborate with colleagues, and actively contribute to our positive school culture. This position plays an essential role in preparing students for success on state assessments and future academic opportunities.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInstruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction for students in grades 4–6.
- Implement SMART Academy's adopted math curriculum with fidelity while differentiating instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Utilize hands-on learning, technology, small-group instruction, and problem-solving activities to increase student engagement and achievement.
- Incorporate real-world applications that promote critical thinking and mathematical reasoning.
- Maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior.
Assessment & Data
- Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments, including STAR Math and classroom assessments.
- Use student performance data to guide instructional decisions and interventions.
- Monitor student growth and maintain accurate academic records.
- Prepare students for Ohio State Tests through targeted instruction and standards-based review.
Classroom Environment
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and positive classroom culture.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility and engagement.
- Build positive relationships with students while supporting their academic, social, and emotional development.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, intervention staff, special education staff, and administration to improve student outcomes.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic goals.
School Responsibilities
- Supervise students during assigned duties, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other designated times.
- Participate in school events, family engagement activities, and other assigned extracurricular responsibilities.
- Support SMART Academy's mission, vision, and commitment to continuous school improvement.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid Ohio Teaching License appropriate for the assigned grade levels.
- Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics.
- Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, student-focused learning environment.
Preferred
- Experience teaching upper elementary or middle school mathematics.
- Experience using data to drive instructional decisions.
- Familiarity with STAR Math or other benchmark assessment systems.
- Experience working in a charter school or high-performing urban school environment.
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and intervention strategies.
- Experience integrating educational technology into daily instruction.
