Inpatient Detox Technician (EMT/Paramedic) Wanted at Turning Point

At Turning Point, we're looking for compassionate and dependable medical professionals to join our Inpatient Detox team. We are New Mexico's leader in evidence-based addiction treatment, providing safe, ethical, and patient-centered care for individuals beginning their recovery journey. As an Inpatient Detox Technician, you'll work alongside medical providers in a collaborative environment while gaining valuable hands-on experience in addiction medicine. Clinical hours are available for qualifying professionals.

Schedule Information

This position follows a rotating 12-hour schedule. Reliability is essential.

  • Overnight Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Schedule A: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday
  • Schedule B: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every other Wednesday
  • Mandatory staff meeting every Wednesday at 8:00 AM (approximately 75% of meetings are held virtually)

Please note that schedules are fixed and non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will be to provide safe, compassionate medical support to clients undergoing detoxification. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring patients throughout the detoxification process, including vital signs and CIWA/COWS assessments
  • Observing patients for changes in medical condition and reporting concerns promptly to medical providers
  • Documenting patient care accurately within the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Performing urine drug screens, pregnancy testing, laboratory documentation, and specimen processing
  • Assisting with patient admissions, assessments, and determining the appropriate level of care in collaboration with the medical team
  • Educating clients about available treatment options, including residential treatment, intensive outpatient programs, and sober living
  • Responding appropriately to medical emergencies and crisis situations
  • Maintaining HIPAA compliance and professional standards of patient confidentiality
  • Assisting with daily household responsibilities including light cooking, cleaning, and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment
  • Collaborating with providers and fellow team members to support positive patient outcomes

What You Bring

  • Current New Mexico EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, or Paramedic license
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Two years of relevant healthcare or crisis intervention experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to remain calm during emergencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic medical records
  • Current HIPAA training
  • If in recovery, a minimum of three years of continuous sobriety
  • New EMT graduates are encouraged to apply

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in addiction medicine or behavioral healthcare
  • Familiarity with detoxification protocols, including CIWA and COWS assessments
  • Knowledge of Addiction Medicine standards and Joint Commission requirements
  • Experience performing blood draws
  • Experience with ICD-10 coding and insurance prior authorizations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Working Environment

This position is based within our inpatient detox facility and requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, and direct patient interaction. Candidates must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. The role requires working rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends, holidays, and participation in mandatory Wednesday staff meetings. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
