Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and strategic growth of a commercial electrical service company. This role oversees project execution, service operations, financial performance, union labor relations, and client development. The GM ensures strong collaboration with union leadership while delivering safe, high-quality, and profitable work.

Responsibilities

  • Support the overall direction and execution of the company strategy, growth initiatives, and operational goals, collaborating with executive leadership to build a high-performance, accountable culture aligned with company values.
  • Develop leadership bench strength across field and office teams.
  • Enforce standard operating procedures for field execution and project delivery.
  • Lead day-to-day division oversight of construction and service operations
  • Oversee project managers, field teams and administrative staff
  • Monitor job costs, labor productivity, and project margins to ensure profitability.
  • Partner with estimating and project teams to ensure accurate bids and cost controls.
  • Maintain full P&L accountability by driving continuous improvement in cost efficiency and margin performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, developers, and owners.
  • Represent the company in industry associations and networking efforts.
  • Provide executive oversight of key projects and high-risk work.
  • Resolve escalated issues related to subcontractors, schedules, labor performance, or change management.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, specifications, and client expectations.
  • Manage budgets and divisional financial performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and vendors
  • Drive process improvements and operational efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10–15+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction and/or service.
  • Experience working within a union environment (e.g., IBEW) is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of Proven leadership or operations management experience
  • Deep understanding of project management, construction financials, budgeting estimating, and field operations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
