JOB SUMMARY:

The Social Skills Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, non-threatening environment conducive to helping students learn social skills and develop friendships while upholding Social Motion Skills’ standards and core values.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster a positive classroom environment that will allow student learning, expression, and safety
  • Follow social skills lessons provided by Social Motion to teach group social skills in the after school program
  • Utilize basic behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons
  • Understand and know how the Behavior Skills Training model is incorporated in the social skills lessons
  • Coach students’ social interactions during weekly facilitated game time
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
  • Complete Class Communication Forms weekly for each student and distribute to parents after each class
  • Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration any attendance concerns
  • Know emergency procedures and be prepared to supervise students during such emergencies (fire, natural disaster, terroristic threats, etc.)
  • Communicate with the Education Director and parents regarding student’s progress
  • Confer with Education Director regarding any behavioral or disciplinary concerns
  • Supervise students on monthly student outings at various community venues
  • Communicate with parents information regarding class outings and events
  • Facilitate social interaction among students during monthly class outings
  • Mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students

PROFESSIONAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a Master’s Degree in education, psychology, human development or related fields strongly preferred
  • Have a valid Texas teaching certificate (Special Education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW (preferred)
  • Have a minimum one year teaching experience (Special Education preferred) or counseling experience
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based practices for those on the Autism Spectrum
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, identify problems and propose solutions

Salary

$45 - $45 per hour
