JOB SUMMARY:
The Social Skills Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, non-threatening environment conducive to helping students learn social skills and develop friendships while upholding Social Motion Skills’ standards and core values.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Foster a positive classroom environment that will allow student learning, expression, and safety
- Follow social skills lessons provided by Social Motion to teach group social skills in the after school program
- Utilize basic behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons
- Understand and know how the Behavior Skills Training model is incorporated in the social skills lessons
- Coach students’ social interactions during weekly facilitated game time
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
- Complete Class Communication Forms weekly for each student and distribute to parents after each class
- Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration any attendance concerns
- Know emergency procedures and be prepared to supervise students during such emergencies (fire, natural disaster, terroristic threats, etc.)
- Communicate with the Education Director and parents regarding student’s progress
- Confer with Education Director regarding any behavioral or disciplinary concerns
- Supervise students on monthly student outings at various community venues
- Communicate with parents information regarding class outings and events
- Facilitate social interaction among students during monthly class outings
- Mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students
PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a Master’s Degree in education, psychology, human development or related fields strongly preferred
- Have a valid Texas teaching certificate (Special Education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW (preferred)
- Have a minimum one year teaching experience (Special Education preferred) or counseling experience
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based practices for those on the Autism Spectrum
- Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, identify problems and propose solutions
Salary
$45 - $45 per hour
