Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide specialized care for patients with conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or behavioral health needs to promote safety and comfort.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care across various settings including acute care, long-term care, hospice, or outpatient clinics.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures like catheter care or wound management to prevent infection.
- Assist with medical procedures such as phlebotomy or specimen collection when trained and authorized.
- Support patients with mobility challenges using equipment like Hoyer lifts or transfer devices safely and effectively.
- Document patient information thoroughly in medical records and ensure compliance with all privacy standards such as HIPAA.
Skills
- Proven experience working in diverse healthcare environments including hospitals (ICU, emergency medicine, trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home & community care settings.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Experience caring for individuals with disabilities or developmental delays; including dementia or memory care expertise is highly valued.
- Ability to perform basic life support (BLS) and handle emergency situations confidently in fast-paced environments like Level I trauma centers or urgent care clinics.
- Strong caregiving skills with a focus on geriatrics, pediatrics (working with children), behavioral health needs, or post-acute/sub-acute care scenarios.
- Competence in using medical equipment such as catheters or DME (durable medical equipment) while adhering to infection control protocols.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and provide compassionate patient service across inpatient and outpatient settings.
