Dental Assistant - Correctional Health Services FT / PT Status - Full-Time Salary - $20.45 Remote Work / In-Office - In-Office / On-Site Recruiter - Angie Rhodes | arhodes@utah.gov Application Deadline - 12/31/2026 Key Responsibilities *This position is open until filled and may close at any time* The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is looking for a Dental Assistant to work at the Utah State Correctional Facility.

Under the direction of the supervising Dentist, the Dental Assistant will provide general assistance and support in working alongside the Dentist.

The Dental Assistant coordinates client services, cleans and sterilizes equipment, documents information in patient charts, maintains inventory of controlled substances, etc.

Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position: Prepare and maintain fully equipped treatment rooms Coordinate and schedule patient appointments efficiently Assist the dentist during a wide range of clinical procedures Sterilize instruments and maintain strict infection control standards Take dental X-rays (as permitted by certification) Maintain accurate patient records and documentation Ensure treatment rooms are cleaned and ready for each patient Monitor and restock dental supplies and equipment Educate patients on post-treatment care and oral hygiene Deliver exceptional patient care while supporting a positive, team-oriented environment An offer of employment will be contingent on the applicant successfully passing a DHHS background check, pre-employment drug testing, and a Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) background screening.

Supplemental Information Certification in radiology and CPR required.

Must possess certifications per Dentist and Dental Hygienist Practice Act, Title 58, chapter 69, and Dentist and Dental Hygienist Practice Act Rule R156-69-603.

Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.

  • Work may require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities.

Qualifications Minimum or "day-one" qualifications: One year of dental assisting experience with current X-ray certification Excellent communication and patient care skills Reliable, professional, and team-oriented Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Basic proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sheets) Positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications: Experience with dental practice management software is preferred Knowledge of OSHA and infection control standards (or willingness to learn) CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain Eagerness to learn new skills, technology, and clinical procedures Strong work ethic, coachability, and desire for continuous improvement Friendly, compassionate, and committed to providing an exceptional patient experience About the Role Location - 1480 N 8000 W Salt Lake City, Utah, 84116 United States Background Check Required - You must successfully pass a criminal history check.
