Humboldt Communications Center Pubilc Safety Dispatchers answer 9-1-1, Public, Allied Agency calls, as well as public inquiries. Public Safety Dispatchers provide radio communications to three Area offices and two resident post areas. Public Safety Dispatchers must be able to document information in a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system accurately, quickly, and take the appropriate action on each call. This classification requires a net typing speed of 40 words per minute. Employees work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Public Safety Dispatchers are often required to work overtime as needed, and consistently report to work on time with minimum absences.

Working Conditions

Humboldt Communications Center works a 3/12 alternate work week with seniority sign-ups. Office environment with a combination of natural and artificial lighting in a semi-secured office building. Cubicle type desks, shared work spaces.

Part-time and intermittent employees shall receive a pro-rata share of the monthly differential based on the total number of hours worked within the monthly pay period.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

  • This position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed designated on the Classification Specifications (link available in the Minimum Requirements section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests:
  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified before appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review. Original diplomas or official, sealed transcripts will be required before the start date. Applicants with foreign transcript(s)/degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript/degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.
  • The CHP utilizes their own Public Safety Dispatcher certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Public Safety Dispatcher classification to be eligible to take the examination. In addition to applying for the examination, applicants MUST submit an application to this Job Control to be considered for the position.
