Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) to assist surgeons during surgical procedures by providing exposure, maintaining hemostasis, handling tissues, closing incisions, and supporting the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The CSFA will also assist with preoperative and postoperative activities while maintaining a sterile operating room environment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and operating room protocols
- Strong technical, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the primary surgeon during surgical procedures by providing exposure, controlling bleeding, handling tissue, suturing, and closing incisions.
- Prepare, position, and drape patients for surgical procedures using sterile techniques.
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient care activities.
- Prepare and maintain the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Verify patient information, surgical consent, laboratory results, and required documentation before procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field and ensure compliance with infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team throughout procedures.
- Monitor surgical equipment and communicate any issues promptly.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and other operating room staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
