Anticipated Full Time Utility Maintenance

Salisbury Township School District has a vacancy for a full-time Utility Maintenance position. This position will assist the Director of Facilities to provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop, teach and work. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong sense of attention to detail and must be able to work independently. Minimum of high school diploma desired; thorough knowledge, understanding and use of landscaping equipment, custodial procedures, equipment, cleaning materials and basic knowledge of sanitation. Maturity and ability to deal with other custodians, students, staff, parents, vendors and the general public; physical and emotional stamina sufficient to work effectively as a member of a crew performing custodial work requiring team effort; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions with a minimum of close supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.

2. Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season

and to ensure economical usage of utilities

3. Shovel and plow walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.

4. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours

of building occupancy.

5. Perform custodial duties such as sweeping, dusting, mopping and vacuuming floors, stairs and corridors.

6. Wax and buff floors as required.

7. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of toilets and drinking fountains.

8. Replenish soap dispensers, toilet paper holders and towel holders.

9. Clean chalkboards and erasers as needed.

10. Empty garbage and recyclable materials daily.

11. Clean routine equipment such as pencil sharpeners, soap dispensers, map racks, floor machines and

vacuums.

12. Assist in the preparation of school events by setting up or removing tables, chairs, furniture, flags, signs,

decorations, etc. as required.

13. Assist cafeteria staff by removing garbage, cleaning, mopping, and clearing loading platforms.

14. Maintain upkeep of grounds by cutting grass, weeding, tree trimming and by keeping grounds free from

paper and debris.

15. Perform miscellaneous work such as washing windows, changing light bulbs, and installing fixtures and

equipment.

16. Request necessary custodial supplies and equipment, and evaluate their effectiveness with the Director of

Facilities.

17. Ascertain security of building by checking doors, roof hatches and windows.

18. Conduct periodic inspection of all electrical installations to ensure their safe condition.

19. Report any apparent malfunction of equipment or damage to buildings such as broken windows, faulty

electrical switches or other safety hazards.

20. Inspect building egress and ensure that all fire exits are clear and fire exit signs are fully operational.

21. Operate and clean heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, replacing filters, lubricating working

parts where applicable, and as assigned.

22. Assist maintenance department with preventative maintenance program.

23. Make minor building, furniture and equipment repairs.

24. Report major building repairs to the appropriate supervisor.

25. Paint as required.

26. Must be able to operate all grounds and fleet equipment to support daily grounds care and removal of

snow

27. Must be able to arrive at work or assigned special duties on time daily.

28. Must be willing to be cross trained on all aspects of school buildings and mechanical equipment

29. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Assistant to the Director of Facilities, or

Building Principals

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of high school diploma desired.

2. Must have a valid drivers license.

3. Thorough knowledge, understanding and use of custodial procedures, equipment, and cleaning materials.

4. Basic knowledge of the principles of heating, ventilation, sanitation, and maintenance of school plant.

5. Maturity and ability to deal with other custodians, students, staff, parents, vendors and the general public.

6. Physical and emotional stamina sufficient to work effectively as a member of a crew performing custodial

work requiring team effort.

7. Must be able to work independently and be self motivated

8. Ability to understand and carry our oral and written instructions with a minimum of close supervision.
