Hourly salary: $27.05-$36.16

Monthly salary: $4,706.00-$6,292.00

Schedule: 10:00pm-6:30am (2200-0630) Thursday-Monday (Tues/Weds off)

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the Airway Heights Corrections Center located in Airway Heights, WA.

This position supports the Department's mission to improve public safety by delivering and leading others in the delivery of nursing services that promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjusting to various health conditions. This position supports the mission of the Health Services Division by providing necessary, comprehensive, quality health services and to promote wellness in preparation for return to the community.

Patient Care:

  • Collects subjective and objective data about the physical and emotional conditions of patients during nursing triage, ambulatory care clinics and patient rounds. Reports data collected to the Registered Nurse/Nursing Supervisor, and as directed, initiates appropriate intervention according to Health Services policies and procedures, treatment plans and protocols.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary meetings to develop a comprehensive plan to provide continuity of care. Contributes to the development of approaches to meet the needs of patients and their families. May assist in the development of patient care plans using standard nursing care plans for chronic and stable disease processes.
  • Participates in emergency response. Assist the Nursing Team in responding to emergencies throughout the facility and institution grounds. Provides emergency medical care including CPR, using triage format to incarcerated individuals and staff. Assist with the Trauma/Emergency Medical Team as deemed necessary.
  • Model pro-social behavior, reinforce positive behaviors, redirect negative behaviors and effectively communicate observed behaviors to responsible program staff, administrators and supervisors. Assist patients to improve their skills and ability to provide care for themselves and their family. Responds to all requests for health care attention in a complete, timely, clinically appropriate and therapeutic manner.
  • In accordance withy the intent and provisions of established policies, practices and procedures, employ appropriate safety techniques to list and carry loads.

Documentation and Practice:

  • Responds to verbal and written requests, from incarcerated individuals, their families and institution staff, as directed, with information or advice consistent with statues and procedures on health care records confidentiality.
  • Maintains accurate, legible and complete records of patient care including chart documentation of all patient requests for medical attention, objective data collected, treatment administered, and patient education provided. Provides input in writing, evaluating and revising nursing care plans and interdisciplinary treatment plans, and completes other entries to support the problem-oriented health care record.
  • Under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Supervisor, teach, counsel and provide health care information that improves health services and/or enhances safety or security.
  • Operates equipment necessary for the provision of patient care, monitors equipment used in the healthcare are and takes the steps to notify appropriate personnel regarding repair or replacement of equipment to ensure its in working condition. Responsible for evaluation and monitoring of medical supplies and equipment, to ensure necessary and sufficient quantities are available.
  • Ensures that practice is consistent with state licensure laws, administrative codes, policies and procedures. Reports any practice deviations to immediate supervisor.

Administrative/Custodial Duties:

  • Assembling/Disassembling charts of admitted or discharged patients in the IPU.
  • Collecting, copying, highlighting data for audit requirements as directed by RN Team Leader or Nursing Supervisor.
