Position Summary

MD Labs is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Support Specialist to join our growing team. This position plays an essential role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory operations by receiving and processing patient specimens, entering patient and test information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), resolving specimen discrepancies, and providing support to multiple departments including Client Services, Reporting, Billing, and Laboratory Operations. Knowledge of prescription medications, a medical billing and coding background is preferred as this position will involve entering ICD-10 codes and require familiarity of medical billing terminology.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Reads, follows, and understands, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) applicable to Toxicology and Molecular Diagnostics testing including safety and quality procedures.
  • Accession specimens accurately into the LIS system using prescribed laboratory guidelines.
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 coding and medical billing terminology.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production, integrity of laboratory specimens, accurate data entry and quality standards determined by MD Labs.
  • Properly identifies specimens that do not follow the proper submission criteria and properly documents and reports any issues to Reporting and Client Services Department for follow up.
  • Enter patient demographics, test codes, medications, and diagnosis codes into Lab Information System (LIS).
  • Scan and upload requisition form(s) received from ordering provider.
  • Prioritizing specimens based on a set of criteria provided by MD Labs.
  • Demonstrates efficiency by doing processes quickly and accurately.
  • Work in multiple system applications.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations.
  • Maintain laboratory safety standards.
  • Attends and participates in department approved training.
  • Adhere to HIPPA Rules and Regulations.
  • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information regarding customers and patients.

  • Assists with training of staff as needed.
  • Pick up samples from delivery companies when needed
  • Help the laboratory staff with any miscellaneous tasks
  • Procure and supply referring providers with necessary supplies
  • Assists patients with questions regarding insurance, billing, balances, and pricing
  • Receive inbound calls from patients, clients, and sales representatives and referring providers
  • Make outbound calls to patients to collect payments
  • Route calls to the appropriate departments as needed
  • Review and process returned mail
  • Fax Reports
  • Onboard new patient and provider accounts
  • Resolve and document any problematic specimens
  • Correct any conflicting patient information
  • Check voicemail and return calls in a timely manner
  • Assists patients with questions regarding insurance, billing, balances, and pricing
  • Receive inbound calls from patients, clients, and sales representatives and referring providers
  • Make outbound calls to patients to collect payments
  • Explain and review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs)
  • All other duties assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Medical Data Entry Experience: 1 year (Required)
  • Laboratory Data Entry Experience: 1 year (Preferred)

Schedule/Job Type:

  • Full-time
  • Monday – Friday 7:30am-5pm
