Classification: Non- Exempt

Pay : $40 - $50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Physical Setting/work location: Onsite, Grand Forks, ND.

Vorbeck is seeking a hands-on Electrical & Instrumentation Controls (EIC) Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, production equipment, and facility infrastructure. This role combines electrical and controls expertise with general maintenance responsibilities to help maintain safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the facility.

Electrical Systems Installation & Maintenance: Install, wire, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems, control panels, production equipment, and testing systems.

Instrumentation & Controls Support: Support the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sensors, transmitters, instrumentation, and control devices used in manufacturing and testing operations.

PLC & Automation Support: Assist with PLC-based systems, automation equipment, VFDs, and motor controls. Support troubleshooting efforts to minimize equipment downtime and improve system performance.

Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities on electrical, instrumentation, control, mechanical, and facility systems to ensure equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

Equipment Installation & Commissioning: Support the installation, commissioning,

startup, and validation of new production equipment, test systems, and facility infrastructure.

Electrical Documentation & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment documentation, and troubleshooting logs. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and P&IDs.

Facility & Infrastructure Support: Support facility improvements, office renovations, workspace buildouts, equipment relocations, and infrastructure upgrades. Assist with laboratory and production area expansions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, and IT teams to support equipment performance, data acquisition systems, facility improvements, and operational objectives.

Safety & Compliance: Perform all work in accordance with electrical codes, OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry best practices. Promote a safe working environment and proactively identify potential hazards.

Other Responsibilities: Perform general maintenance, facility support, equipment repairs, and operational projects as assigned to support overall facility performance.

Travel (Expected): Up to 10%.

Education & Certifications

High school diploma or GED required

Valid Journeyman Electrician license required. Master Electrician license preferred. Vorbeck will support qualified Journeyman Electricians in obtaining Master Electrician licensure.

OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is a plus

Experience

3+ years of experience working with industrial electrical systems, controls, instrumentation, or manufacturing equipment.

Experience troubleshooting electrical equipment, motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial systems.

Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and P&IDs

Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, pilot plant, or production environments preferred.

Experience with PLCs, VFDs, automation systems, and industrial controls preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Exceptional drive and work ethic.

Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including motor controls and power distribution

Familiarity with PLC-based systems and basic automation troubleshooting

Experience working with VFDs and motor control systems

Ability to use electrical testing tools

Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints

Knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA)

Maintains a high level of safety awareness and follows established safety procedures

Able to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently in a hands-on environment

Experience supporting lab or pilot-scale systems is a plus

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs and ladders regularly.

Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.

Ability to work safely around industrial equipment, electrical systems, and production environments.

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
