Summary

Mechanical Technician performs senior‑level maintenance and repair of boilers, HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment under general supervision. Works day, swing, or graveyard shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, kitchen equipment, and related mechanical and electrical controls.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, perform safety testing, and conduct preventive maintenance.
  • Repair and adjust electrical and pneumatic pressure control equipment; test and maintain safety switches and controls.
  • Repair refractories and fireboxes; clean fireside and waterside of boilers.
  • Test and treat hot water, chilled water, steam, and other hydronic systems.
  • Maintain and repair ground‑source heat pump systems and other HVAC subsystems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance staff and kitchen personnel.
  • Coordinate and oversee boiler and vessel preparation for annual inspection and certification.
  • Ensure compliance with state, local, district, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Manage large HVAC and kitchen maintenance projects, including energy analysis studies.
  • Estimate time and material costs for vendor and contractor repairs.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of testing, preventive maintenance, and major repairs.
  • Manage inventory of supplies, equipment, and parts.
  • Complete material disturbance permits and perform asbestos, lead, and mold remediation as required.
  • Assist with energy analysis studies and prioritize equipment repair and replacement needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience with boilers, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
  • Three (3) years of experience working under a licensed contractor on complex boiler, HVAC, and refrigeration projects (preferred).
  • Completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program or accredited trade/technical school with major coursework in boiler, heating, venting, and air conditioning.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License.
  • EPA Certification; Universal Certification required within probation period.
  • AHERA 16‑hour asbestos training and certification required.
  • OSHA Lead Action 8‑hour training and certification required.

Competencies & Skills

  • Advanced journey‑level knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment operations.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, and specification sheets.
  • Proficient in safety practices, estimating material and labor costs, and using computerized work order systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Lifting, carrying, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling continuously; climbing frequently.
  • Exposure to weather, extreme temperatures, loud noises, confined spaces, heights, and hazardous materials.
