Production Operator Job Description This Production Operator role focuses on preparing product for day-shift use, monitoring sifting and filling operations in Bagging Department storage tanks, and supporting Furnace Operators with Grinding Department tasks. The position also maintains daily plant housekeeping and safely performs dust control activities using a particulate respirator during air wand blowdown across the plant site. Responsibilities Prepare product for day-shift use by staging, organizing, and ensuring materials are available and ready for production. Monitor the sifting and filling of Bagging Department storage tanks to maintain consistent material flow and product quality. Assist the Furnace Operator with Grinding Department tasks, including material handling and basic equipment support. Perform glass pile dressing and load cullet into the plant shredder system in a safe and efficient manner. Identify and remove contamination from glass piles to prevent equipment plug-ups and quality issues, and promptly report significant issues to the lead operator or management. Operate plant equipment safely and efficiently, following established procedures and safety guidelines. Apply knowledge of raw material processing flow to troubleshoot problems as they occur and support continuous operations. Operate a forklift safely to move materials, products, and equipment within the facility. Monitor and coordinate bulk dust operations to maintain safe working conditions and process efficiency. Perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment to support reliable operation. Monitor dryer operations and gas rates to ensure the process runs efficiently and within required parameters. Carry out daily plant housekeeping, including cleaning and dust control, to maintain a safe and orderly work area. Use a dust particulate respirator during air wand blowdown of the plant site and follow all respiratory protection procedures. Follow all safety requirements for personal protective equipment and participate in maintaining a strong safety culture. Essential Skills Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment performing general labor tasks. Ability to safely operate a forklift and follow material handling procedures. Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently in a production setting. Working knowledge of raw material processing flow and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise. Capability to perform minor maintenance and greasing operations on plant equipment. Ability to monitor and coordinate bulk dust operations and dryer operations, including awareness of gas rates. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to be medically certifiable to wear a respirator for this position. Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment at all times. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience with glass processing, glass pile dressing, or cullet handling is beneficial. Experience in bagging operations or working with storage tanks in a production environment is an advantage. Familiarity with grinding or furnace operations in a manufacturing setting is preferred. Comfort working in a physically demanding role that involves lifting, standing, and working around industrial equipment. Attention to detail when identifying contamination and addressing potential quality or equipment issues. Work Environment The role is based in a manufacturing setting that involves working around industrial equipment, glass materials, dust, and bulk handling systems. The environment requires consistent adherence to safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment. Workers cannot wear contact lenses and must use prescription safety glasses or protective glasses worn over regular glasses. Required PPE includes steel-toe shoes, a hardhat, hearing protection, gloves, and long pants. Hi-visibility long sleeve shirts or jackets must be worn year-round to ensure visibility and safety.
