We're looking for someone to join our team as a Laboratory Specialistwho:

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Nursing, the Laboratory Specialist is responsible for knowledge of all point of care testing. The Laboratory Specialist provides technical resources and direction to nurses and medical assistants regarding lab policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Laboratory Specialist will be familiar with CLIA performance regulations and take the lead role during regulatory audits.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Clinica Sierra Vista.
  • Acts as a liaison for CSV with multiple lab vendors and other partnering agencies.
  • Create and deactivate multiple lab vendor accounts for CSV staff.
  • Disseminates lab educational programs, courses and other content based on lab vendor, regulatory and legal updates.
  • Collaborates with nursing department to update waived testing policies and procedures using current standards to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborates with nursing educator to implement updated waived testing procedures and policies.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary departments to ensure patients are receiving safe, high-quality care.
  • Monitors lab vendor electronic trailers and coding related issues for completion and submission of data needed.
  • Report and resolve vendor related issues to multiple interdisciplinary departments.
  • Participates in infection control programs and regulatory audits.
  • Assist nursing with the ordering, inventory, and inspection of material to assure the valid dates of use.
  • After consulting the ADON, appropriately destroys or repurpose outdated supplies as required by state licenses, common practices, and procedures. Assist in receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, and transporting of specimens and testing equipment when necessary.
  • Coordinates with nursing department and vendors to provide resolution regarding specimens in question or tests not performed. Keeps current with methods, trends, technology, or other topics pertaining to local, state, and federal CLIA Waived Testing and lab requirements.
  • Work closely with Health IT and Billing Director to ensure appropriate Lab CPT Codes in E.H.R. system.
  • Reports and reconciles labs ordered vs labs resulted. Collaborates with nursing department on emergency preparations, including plans for ensuring safety of controls and lab specimens during emergencies.
  • Maintains work area in safe, aseptic, and organized manner.
  • Maintains enrollment status of CSV health centers with lab vendor(s) as needed.
  • Reasonable and predictable in person attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant or Licensed Vocational Nurse with over 3 years of lab experience acquired through a Federally Qualified Health Center performing CLIA Waived Testing and lab ordering and/or processing preferred.
  • Knowledgeable CLIA Waived laboratory equipment, operation, maintenance, and performance of such equipment.
  • Phlebotomy Certification (PBT) preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both orally and written.
  • Possess clinical knowledge of CLIA Waived Testing and lab ordering and/or processing standards and applicable policies.
  • Experience with EHR systems Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff and others contacted in daily activities.
  • Ability to complete task within established time limits.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple task and deadlines.
  • Valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and personal transportation.
