Position Overview
JC Smith Inc. is seeking a motivated and driven Outside Sales Representative to join our growing team. We are looking for an individual who thrives in relationship-based sales, enjoys working in the construction and industrial markets, and is eager to help customers succeed.
In this role, you will manage existing customer relationships, develop new business opportunities, and promote our full line of construction equipment, materials, rentals, signage and supplies.
Key Responsibilities
- Service established customers and help grow their business using products and rental solutions offered by JC Smith Inc.
- Identify, pursue, and develop new customer relationships
- Quote, sell, and rent construction equipment, materials, and supplies
- Achieve targeted sales goals for supplies, rentals, and new/used equipment
- Schedule and coordinate equipment demonstrations to support sales and rental growth
- Work closely with Sales Managers, Branch Managers, and fellow team members to efficiently organize daily schedules and sales calls
- Meet or exceed monthly sales and rental performance goals
- Maintain timely and professional follow-up with customers
- Negotiate and finalize deals
- Build and maintain strong knowledge of all JC Smith product offerings
- Complete and submit all required sales documentation accurately
- Submit weekly sales plans
- Utilize CRM tools daily to track opportunities, activity, and customer communication
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of sales experience (required)
- Minimum 1 year of construction industry experience (required)
- Knowledge of concrete, sitework, and construction materials strongly preferred
- Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented with the ability to work independently
- Ability to develop and sustain customer relationships in a competitive market
- Proven ability to grow sales revenue and customer base is a plus
- Experience with CRM systems or willingness to learn (RepMove)
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Must pass a 4-panel drug test
- Must be willing to relocate to Syracuse before starting (if applicable)
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary starting at $65,000+
