Job Overview

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) Specialist provides family-centered care as demonstrated by recognizing the patient, family and/or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient’s preferences, values, and needs. The RT Specialist assumes an active role in clinical education of patients, families and staff; and functions as a role model within respiratory and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, teamwork, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $36.51 to $54.77

This position is eligible for relocation assistance for over 100 miles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Functions independently in the two or more areas.
  • Role models integration of evidence into practice.
  • Identifies need for and/or participates in the development or revision of organizational or departmental policies, procedures or practice guidelines in comparison with evidence based clinical practice.
  • Communicates the standard of care practices from applicable professional organization and/or association.
  • Identifies gaps in best practice and participates in the implementation of unit, division or organizational quality improvement; and participates with the interdisciplinary team to improve quality and safety outcomes.
  • Analyzes information and technology of patient, unit or organization outcomes to partner and foster communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination.
  • Maintains membership of a respiratory or professional healthcare organization as required to maintain credential.
  • Participates in education by precepting and educating orientees, students, peers. Acts as a clinical resource and/or presents clinical programs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be Charge roles.
  • Assesses and evaluates unit delivery of patient and family centered care, incorporating the respiratory process while providing developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care.
  • Role models and coaches patient and family care needs through assessing changes in patient outcomes/unit needs in the provision of care, within scope of practice.
  • Identifies and works to removes barriers to promote communication and advocacy of patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient/family learning needs to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate individualized care and education for patients/families across the continuum.
  • Participates in designing departmental or organizational systems that support effective teamwork.
  • Participates in safety and quality of care projects and disseminates and incorporates into team setting.
  • Provides direction and support to the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION:Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy/Care
  • EXPERIENCE:Three (3) years of experience delivering respiratory therapy/care, including at least one (1) year of pediatric experience
  • CERTIFICATION(S):
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential required within one (1) year of hire if in the outpatient pulmonary function lab setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted) with at least 6 months remaining before expiration
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 90 days of hire
  • LICENSURE(S):State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Respiratory Therapist license
  • PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP(S): Active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC)
