Position: Full-Time Dispatcher

Location: Detroit MI Pay: $16.73 - $21 per hour Job Type: Full-time Schedule: 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

About the Role

At The Salvation Army Thrift Store, your work helps turn donations into funding for programs that support people in our community. We're seeking an organized and efficient Dispatcher to coordinate our pickup and delivery operations. This role is crucial in ensuring smooth logistics operations by managing pickup orders, coordinating routes, and supervising assistant dispatchers. You'll be responsible for routing pickup orders, tracking vehicles, maintaining records, and supporting our mission of serving those in need in our community.

What

You’ll Do Dispatch Operations

  • Route pickup orders to appropriate Production Assistants daily
  • Track and maintain accurate records of vehicle locations and completed calls
  • Operate two-way radio equipment according to center policy and FCC regulations
  • Route same‑day special donations efficiently
  • Assign vehicles and coordinate all routes

Supervision & Communication

  • Conduct Production Assistant meetings when necessary
  • Maintain open communication with Transportation Supervisor/Director of Operations
  • Keep supervisor informed of any vehicle problems, accidents, or other issues

Record Keeping

  • Track and file all pickup tickets
  • Monitor and document completed calls
  • Assist phone receptionist when needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all operations

Additional Information What You Need Education & Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination
  • Experience with two-way radio codes and operation
  • Experience in routing and transportation procedures

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills in data management
  • Ability to read and write simple correspondence
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to hear and talk
  • Use hands to finger or handle
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision
  • Must wear back guard when doing substantial lifting or moving
  • Office/warehouse environment
  • Quiet to moderate noise level
