The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) invites eligible agency employees to apply for the Transportation Maintainer 3 (Small Paint Machine Operator) position.

The Role
The Maintainer 3 will be responsible for state road and highway line striping within the District 1 area.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current CDL Class A or B with tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC).
- Willingness to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, during the winter season and for extended storm events.
- Residency within 30 miles of the posted job location.
- Certification in aerial bucket truck operation and fall protection (including safety harness and trauma strap).
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, or maintenance and repair of roadsides, roadways, bridges, or airports, involving operation of mechanical equipment.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade may be substituted for the general experience.
- Considerable knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair techniques of roadsides, roadways, bridges, and airports.
- Knowledge of processes and materials used in construction and maintenance trades.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use, set up, and maintain bench and other shop machine tools.
- Maintain shop records and prepare reports.
- Utilize computer software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating small paint machine equipment.
- Experience laying out symbols and legends (e.g., crosswalks and stop bars).
- Experience interpreting and understanding blueprints.
- Experience safely operating equipment and handling hazards.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity.
- Exposed to extremes of weather, heavy lifting, traffic, heights, poison ivy, insect bites, and loud machinery.
- May be required to complete an asbestos removal program and use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
