BRICK currently has schools in two regions: Newark, New Jersey, and Buffalo, New York.

BRICK Gateway Academy Charter School is our Newark location.  As a full K-12 continuum, we start our college-focused academic programming in kindergarten and yield better results for Newark students for generations to come. We are more than a school; we are a full ecosystem of supports from cradle to career. We provide our families with free wraparound services like prenatal care, career services, and housing support. Our high school alumni receive up to six years of post-graduate assistance. BRICK Gateway Academy attracts a diverse staff devoted to nurturing our students’ intellect and identities in order to prepare them to graduate from college and to chart their own course.

Position Overview

BRICK is seeking an engaging and mission-driven Part-Time Career Pathways Exploration Teacher to work with middle school students one day per week as part of our Career Pathways Program. This educator will help students explore careers, develop professional skills, and begin connecting their interests, identities, and strengths to future opportunities.

The ideal candidate believes all students deserve access to meaningful career exploration and economic opportunity and is passionate about creating culturally relevant, interactive, and empowering learning experiences.

Essential Functions

Facilitate engaging 60 minute career exploration lessons for middle school students

Introduce students to career pathways, industries, and postsecondary opportunities

Teach foundational professional and durable skills such as:

Communication

Collaboration

Problem-solving

Goal setting

Professionalism

Digital literacy

Support students in exploring their interests, identities, strengths, and future goals

Use hands-on activities, discussions, guest speakers, and project-based learning to make career exploration engaging and meaningful

Support students in beginning career portfolios and Individual Career & Academic Plans (ICAPs)

Create a classroom culture grounded in respect, empathy, curiosity, and student voice

Build positive relationships with students and families

Support BRICK’s commitment to holistic student development and culturally responsive teaching

Collaborate with school staff and program leaders as needed

Prepare lesson materials and track student participation

Qualifications:

Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred

Background in education, college and career readiness, workforce development, youth development, or related field preferred

Strong communication and classroom management skills

Ability to connect career exploration and workforce readiness concepts to students’ lived experiences and future goals

Commitment to educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and community-centered learning

Dependable, organized, and enthusiastic

Substitute teacher certification eligible required

Teaching certification is a plus but not required

Salary, Goals and Employment Period

Wednesdays only from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM from August 26 to June 16, 2027

Approximately 5 hours per week

Summer Professional Development in mid-August for 10-12 hours

Competitive hourly rates based on experience
