SUMMARY:

An elementary school teacher is responsible for creating a welcoming classroom environment where faith, academic excellence, and student growth are integrated into every aspect of the school day. At Immaculate Conception Elementary School, the Catholic faith is the foundation of our mission and the underlying message that guides all teaching, learning, and interactions within our community.

As an educational professional serving young children, teachers at all grade levels create engaging lesson plans, foster a nurturing and structured learning environment, and constructively enforce school schedules and expectations. Our school supports creative, hands-on learning and seeks enthusiastic, faith-filled educators to fill all anticipated teaching positions.

Teachers at I.C. develop lesson plans and deliver both whole-group and individualized instruction within established curriculum guidelines while collaborating with fellow teachers, support staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom needs. Upper elementary teachers work especially closely as a collaborative instructional team, partnering across grade levels and subject areas to ensure curriculum alignment, student success, and a consistent educational experience. Teachers also maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a nurturing environment that emphasizes academic excellence while integrating Catholic values and Gospel teachings into the daily life of the classroom.
  • Model Christian values and support the mission of Immaculate Conception School by ensuring faith is reflected throughout the curriculum, classroom culture, and relationships with students and families.

  • Create age-appropriate lesson plans in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, religion, and physical education.
  • Present lessons to the entire class as well as facilitate small-group instruction based on educational themes and differentiated learning needs.
  • Teach students social skills, academic concepts, responsibility, and respect while preparing them for continued educational success.
  • Observe students' strengths, abilities, and areas for growth, communicating with parents and specialized educators when additional support or intervention is appropriate.
  • Teach and consistently enforce classroom and playground expectations that promote safety, responsibility, and respect.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with school administration to achieve school-wide goals and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with grade-level colleagues—particularly within the upper elementary team—to plan instruction, align curriculum, share best practices, analyze student progress, and foster a cohesive learning experience for all students.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages curiosity, growth, collaboration, and a love of learning.
  • Maintain records of student work and development; prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Collaborate with interventionists, tutors, special-area teachers, and Title I staff to meet individual student needs.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational settings (e.g., classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
