Job Summary: Perform modifications, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and related equipment used in laboratory operations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: shop supervisors and co-workers, student assistants. This position typically will advise and counsel: student assistants and lower level Instrument Makers. This position will supervise: NA.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain machinery (e.g., milling machines, computer controlled mills and lathes, shears and press brakes).
- Modify, repair and rebuild laboratory equipment in accordance with design specifications.
- Fabricate and assemble equipment.
- Instruct students in safe operation of shop equipment.
- Provide guidance to lower level Instrument Makers.
- Confer with shop customers (faculty, students, etc.) regarding work requirements.
- Provide input to design of equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Educational Requirements: Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Required Qualifications: Work requires following basic safety precautions. Requires lifting objects up to 25 lbs. and standing for extended periods of time.
Required Experience: Seven to eight years of job related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
This job requires journey level skills in: fabrication techniques, use of shop math, reading prints, drawings; sheet metal work; equipment repair; materials and components identification and selection; welding and soldering; use of machine tools and hand/power tools.
