Optometric Technician - Long Term Care Facilities

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY

Schedule: 9:00am- 5:30pm

Employment Type: 1099

Total Annual Compensation: $50,000-$60,000 ($8-$10 per pt.)

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and patient-focused Optometric Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will assist optometrists with vision exams and eye health assessments for patients in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities . This position offers the opportunity to work closely with clinical providers while supporting the early detection and management of vision conditions in a geriatric population.

Responsibilities

Assist optometrists with comprehensive eye exams and vision testing

Perform preliminary testing, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and autorefractor measurements

Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort

Administer basic diagnostic tests such as visual field testing and retinal imaging

Accurately document patient history, test results, and clinical findings

Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment in compliance with safety and infection control standards

Support eyeglass fittings, adjustments, and patient education as needed

Collaborate with optometrists, advanced practice providers, and facility staff

Travel to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities as assigned

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required

Completion of an Optometric Technician or Ophthalmic Technician training program preferred

Certification (e.g., CPO, ABO) preferred but not required

Prior experience in optometry or ophthalmology strongly preferred

Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings a plus

Strong attention to detail and technical proficiency

Excellent communication and patient-care skills

Comfortable working with the geriatric population

Ability to travel as needed
