Job Title: ELEMENTARY SOCIAL WORKER - LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE

Provide school social work services to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic success of elementary students. This role includes providing direct and consultative services, participating in special education and Multi-Tiered System of Supports processes, maintaining required documentation, and collaborating with students, families, and staff to connect them with appropriate school and community resources.

Qualifications:

  • State of Michigan Certification as a School Social Worker (preferred) or acceptance for enrollment in an approved school social worker preparation program
  • Valid social worker license (LLMSW or LMSW) issued by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) (required)
  • Master’s Social Work degree or equivalent (required)
  • Experience working with elementary students in individual, small group, or classroom settings

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work in a team planning structure
  • Ability to be enthusiastic, flexible, and work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Training in CPI, Trauma Informed Teaching, START, and Restorative Practices or willingness to be trained
  • Excellent organization and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
  • Successful classroom management strategies and skills
  • Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and demonstrated competencies specified in the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education
  • Proficiency in developing high-quality IEPs, PLAAFP statements, and measurable goals and objectives
  • Ability to consistently document SSW services, track progress on IEP goals and objectives, and complete Service Capture/Medicaid logs
  • Ability to develop and implement positive behavior support plans
  • Ability to provide classroom lessons regarding social skills, friendships, etc.
  • Knowledge of school-based interventions for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional/social disorders, etc.
  • Knowledge of current research-based practices in Social Thinking and Mindfulness or willingness to be trained
  • Proficiency with technology and electronic documentation of student data
  • Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
  • Ability to complete other duties as assigned

Location: Elementary Location

Rate: EGRPS Long-Term Substitute Teacher Rate per Edustaff

Start Date: Approximately November 9, 2026

Duration: Approximately through February 1, 2027
