A rewarding opportunity is available for an LPN or RN seeking to support a dedicated 18-year-old male student with complex medical needs in an educational setting. This assignment is designed for a professional who is passionate about making a difference through 1:1 care, fostering independence, and ensuring student well-being throughout the academic year and summer program.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid and active MA nursing certificate (LPN or RN)
- Experience working as an LPN/LVN or School Nurse within school environments
- Competence in providing pulmonary care, including nebulizer treatments, chest PT (vest), cough assist, and oral suctioning
- Comfort with full body range of motion care, including use of a ceiling lift, continuous repositioning, and familiarity with TLSO (torso brace) and AFOs (ankle braces)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially within multi-disciplinary educational teams
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 daily nursing care and supervision for a student with diagnoses of periventricular leukomalacia, spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, eosinophilic esophagitis, and GERD
- Support the student from home to school and back, including assistance with transportation, boarding the van, and transitions
- Implement and manage prescribed pulmonary care routines and other medical needs during the school day
- Assist with mobility, repositioning, and adaptive equipment throughout the day
- Communicate regularly with educational staff, family, and healthcare providers regarding the students needs and progress
This is a contract position offering reliable, full-time hours (approx. 40 per week), continuing over the summer and into the upcoming school years as the need persists. Schedules run the length of the school day, with summer hours from July 6 to August 7 and regular school hours resuming afterward.
