Position Summary

The Automotive Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting a wide variety of vehicles while delivering exceptional workmanship and customer satisfaction. Successful technicians accurately identify mechanical and electrical concerns, complete repairs efficiently, and ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards.

Technicians are expected to maintain productivity, follow safety procedures, communicate effectively with service advisors, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance services including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid services, filters, batteries, and inspections
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, drivability, suspension, steering, brake, HVAC, and engine performance concerns
  • Perform repairs according to manufacturer specifications
  • Complete warranty repairs following OEM procedures
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment and scan tools to identify vehicle issues
  • Read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, and technical information
  • Inspect vehicles and recommend additional maintenance or repairs when needed
  • Perform engine, transmission, suspension, steering, electrical, and brake repairs
  • Test drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify proper operation
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and technician notes
  • Communicate findings clearly with service advisors and management
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all OSHA, EPA, dealership, and manufacturer safety guidelines
  • Continuously participate in manufacturer and dealership training programs

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening as required
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with digital repair orders
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and teamwork skills
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service

Preferred Qualifications

Experienced technicians should possess one or more of the following:

  • 2+ years of automotive repair experience (preferred)
  • Previous dealership experience preferred
  • ASE Certifications (A-Series) preferred
  • Manufacturer certifications (Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Toyota, or other OEMs) preferred
  • Experience using OEM diagnostic software
  • Experience diagnosing complex drivability and electrical concerns
  • Proficiency with scan tools, oscilloscopes, and electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Experience with engine performance diagnostics
  • Brake, steering, suspension, HVAC, transmission, and engine repair experience
  • Hybrid and EV service experience is a plus
  • Ability to accurately estimate repair times
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
  • State inspection license (where applicable)

Tools & Equipment

Technicians should possess:

  • A personal set of professional automotive hand tools appropriate for their experience level
  • Ability to safely operate lifts, alignment equipment, tire machines, balancing equipment, and diagnostic tools
