Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description
This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC mills, primarily vertical Haas machines, to produce precision components for the electronics industry based on customer specifications. You will perform basic setups, make tooling and program edits, and ensure all parts meet quality and dimensional requirements while following established safety procedures in a laid-back, job-shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and set up CNC mills, with a primary focus on vertical Haas machines.
- Perform basic machine setups, including workholding, tooling changes, and offsets.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and customer specifications to manufacture components accurately.
- Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet geometric and dimensional requirements.
- Perform program and control edits using G-code and related CNC programming tools as needed.
- Monitor machining operations, adjust feeds, speeds, and tool paths to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic machining, tooling, and setup issues to minimize downtime.
- Follow and maintain all safety procedures and shop guidelines during machine operation and setups.
- Manufacture custom, to-order fixtures and components for electronics and wave soldering applications.
- Document work as required and communicate effectively with team members regarding job status and issues.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience operating and setting up CNC mills, particularly vertical Haas machines.
- Proficiency in CNC mill operations, including machine setups and tooling changes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and detailed work instructions.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and its application in machining and inspection.
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and pin gauges.
- Experience performing CNC program and control edits.
- Working knowledge of G-code programming and CNC control operation.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work area.
- Experience manufacturing components to customer specifications in a job-shop or similar environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Haas CNC controls and similar CNC machinery.
- Familiarity with Fanuc-based controls and CNC programming concepts.
- Experience in machining components for the electronics industry or custom fixtures.
- Comfort working with GD&T in both programming and inspection contexts.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and optimize setups for efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.

Work Environment
This is a swing shift position, working Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. The facility operates as a job shop, producing custom, to-order fixtures and components, including fixtures for wave soldering applications. The shop maintains a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere with music playing and a friendly crowd, while still emphasizing safety and quality. You will work primarily on CNC mills, especially vertical Haas machines, in a production environment that supports collaboration and continuous improvement.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
