Role Overview:

This role is to provide overarching Hazardous Waste and Environmental Safety expertise to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last 2 decades Apex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve their occupational health and safety, ergonomic, environmental and engineering goals. The incumbent will serve as a Hazardous Waste and Environmental Specialist to support site-wide hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations. This role is for the duration of 6 months located on site in Everett Washington with possible extension based on performance and client need.

The incumbent will be dedicated full time to supporting the sites hazardous waste and environmental compliance operations. The individual in this role will work closely with environmental, engineering, maintenance, leadership, and EHS stakeholders to assist with closing any and all hazardous waste and compliance gaps identified as well as supporting the day-to-day operations.

Your Responsibilities as a Mid Level Hazardous Waste Safety and Environmental Specialist:

Project Background

Hazardous waste background, including familiarity with Washington Dangerous Waste regulations

Familiar with related records (manifests, hazardous waste invoices, MSD, etc.)

Environmental compliance-oriented

Able to conduct walking inspections of RCRA accumulation/satellite areas

able to document and photograph areas of concern, then develop professional emails to convey desired mitigation

able to conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures were implemented

DOT trained -- desirable, but not required, and they would not be expected to sign manifests

Reasonable computer skills (data entry, email, able to pick up basic operations on the client’s internal data base and programs.

Able to work as part of a team with client’s current Environmental employees dedicated to hazardous waste compliance at the site.

Site Inspections – Small Quantity Generators

Land Disposal Restrictions - Review/Update Project Support

Battery Collection Location Updates w/HazMat

RCRA Inspection Forms - compile, organize

Invoice Reviews Approvals

Hazmat ECTs HW trainings – help develop a mini training program on regulatory compliance and policies at the site.

Visit crew meetings to train individuals or very small groups on policies, program aspects, compliance, etc

Ability to give small presentations is desirable but not required – we can do the presentations if needed

What we're looking for:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental, waste management, chemical or a related technical discipline required.

Minimum 5+ years of progressive hazardous waste and or waste management, engineering, environmental/hazardous waste compliance. (Experience and education will be accounted for appropriately).

40 hour HAZWOPER

Desired but not required:

OSHA 30

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Certified Professional in Waste Management (CPWM)

Hazardous Waste Management Specialist (HMS)

Excellent communication, training, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard safety documentation and reporting practices.

Valid driver’s license required.
