Job Title: Visual Inspector – 2nd Shift Weekends
Job Description
The Visual Inspector on 2nd shift weekends plays a key role in ensuring product quality and safety within a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. This position focuses on visual inspection of products and materials, accurate data entry, and active participation in quality assurance processes while collaborating closely with production teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed visual inspections of products, components, and materials using the human eye and, when needed, tools such as magnifying aids or specialized equipment to identify defects, inconsistencies, or nonconformances.
- Capture clear, accurate photos of products and inspection findings and upload them to the company’s digital systems in accordance with established procedures.
- Review and interpret photo evidence to recognize discrepancies, document issues, and support quality decision-making.
- Enter inspection results, material data, and finished product information into computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other internal systems with a high level of accuracy.
- Edit and update check sheets and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed to reflect current quality and inspection requirements.
- Monitor production quality, respond promptly to quality concerns, and escalate issues to appropriate quality assurance contacts when necessary.
- Enter material and finished product holds into QA notification emails and other designated quality communication tools to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Support internal and external audits as needed by providing inspection records, documentation, and quality-related information.
- Move comfortably between different production cells to perform inspections, data entry, and quality checks wherever needed.
- Work in alignment with the production schedule, including weekends and some Saturdays, ensuring inspection coverage whenever the production team is operating.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and established quality control procedures to maintain high standards of product quality and safety.
- Maintain a clean, organized inspection area and handle equipment and materials in a safe and responsible manner.
Essential Skills
- Proficient computer skills with the ability to comfortably use Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and documentation.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook for email communication and QA notification processes.
- Ability to learn and use SAP and other company-specific computer applications for data entry and quality tracking.
- Experience with visual inspection in a manufacturing or production environment, examining products, components, or materials to detect defects or inconsistencies.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies in products and photo evidence.
- Comfort working across multiple production cells and adapting to changing inspection needs.
- Willingness to work 2nd shift weekend hours, including Friday through Sunday from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM, and some required Saturdays.
- Understanding of basic quality control and quality assurance principles.
- Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and adhere to established SOPs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and communicating quality issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus, particularly in precision machining or sheet metal manufacturing settings.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes in production environments.
- Comfort supporting audits by providing documentation and inspection records.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with production and quality teams.
- No additional formal certifications required for this role.
