Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of manual machine tools to produce precision parts from raw materials. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of blueprints, takes pride in hands-on craftsmanship, and can work independently to tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate manual manufacturing equipment, including manual lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and band saws.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specs to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
- Part Inspection: Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, verniers) to inspect finished parts and ensure they meet exact specifications.
- Material Selection: Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, plastics) based on job requirements.
- Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine maintenance on machines, keep a clean workstation, and strictly adhere to all OSHA and company safety guidelines.
- Problem Solving: Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to tools or speeds to achieve optimal results.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Manual Machinist in a job shop or manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skill: Strong proficiency in operating manual lathes and mills is required.
- Math Skills: Solid understanding of shop math, including geometry and trigonometry, for calculating dimensions and angles.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks with manual dexterity.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or vocational program is highly preferred.
