Job Title: Warehouse Shipping and Material Handling Associate

Job Description

This contract-to-hire role focuses on preparing outgoing shipments and coordinating closely with the Customer Service team to ensure all shipping documents are accurate and completed on time. You will handle material movement, use warehouse systems and carrier platforms, and support general warehouse operations in a high-volume distribution environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transact customer orders using both carrier systems and the company’s ERP system to ensure accurate and timely shipment processing.
  • Perform quality control inspections within the workflow to verify order accuracy and packaging integrity.
  • Package and tape international shipments in multi-pack cartons for export, following all required guidelines.
  • Affix shipping labels on packed cartons, ensuring labels are correct and clearly visible.
  • Take accurate inventory counts at the end of each day and report any discrepancies.
  • Serve as a back-up order picker as needed to support warehouse throughput.
  • Pick, pack, and stage orders using RF scanners and related warehouse technology.
  • Assemble cardboard cartons as needed for large, multi-pack shipments.
  • Move prepared shipments from shipping carts to dock doors using pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Call and/or email forwarding companies to arrange shipment pick-up and confirm schedules.
  • Consign shipments to forwarders and verify that the correct shipments are consigned by carefully reviewing documents and instructions.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities, including loading, unloading, and verifying incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Maintain good communication and rapport with co-workers and support a collaborative team environment.
  • Ensure the shipping area and warehouse workspaces remain organized, safe, and neat.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of issues, delays, or concerns on the shipping floor.
  • Perform other warehouse and shipping duties as assigned to meet operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • Proven material handling experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • General warehouse experience, including order picking, pick/pack, and staging orders for shipment.
  • Experience with shipping and receiving processes, including UPS and FedEx systems.
  • Ability to transact orders using carrier platforms and ERP systems, or strong aptitude to learn these tools.
  • Computer literacy with demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, particularly in quality control and documentation.
  • Experience using RF scanners for order picking and inventory tasks.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to safely operate pallet jacks and other material handling equipment.
  • Capability to perform accurate daily inventory counts and maintain organized records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with international shipping and receiving using carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
  • Prior experience in a high-rack distribution center environment.
  • Background in shipping and receiving roles that required coordination with Customer Service or logistics teams.
  • Comfort working with multi-pack export cartons and complex shipment configurations.
  • Demonstrated reliability in attendance, work attitude, performance, and teamwork, supporting eligibility for conversion to full-time employment.
  • Ability to adapt to different shifts and locations within the distribution network as needed.
