Emergency: Dial 911 Office: 281-550-6663 Fax: 281-550-7288 The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Captain – Suppression Training to assist in the leadership, coordination, development, and delivery of firefighter training and professional development programs in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, TCFP requirements, departmental policies, and industry best practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring firefighter readiness, operational effectiveness, certification compliance, and safety through classroom instruction, practical skills training, recruit academy coordination, curriculum development, and performance evaluations. The Captain – Suppression Training serves as a key member of the Training Division and is responsible for supervising training activities, coordinating recruit academies, managing training records, overseeing training facilities and props, and supporting department-wide suppression training initiatives. The rank of Captain – Suppression Training is classified as a full-time hourly non-exempt position. Pay Rate: Staff Training-Suppressing Captain: $46.84 per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity Annual Education Pay: Associate’s Degree: $0.58 Bachelor’s Degree: $0.87 Master’s/Doctorate Degree: $1.15 Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours, nights, and weekends may be expected. *Accrual increases every 2 or 3 years, depending on length of service Retirement: TCDRS7% employee contribution, 14% employercontribution 457(b)Voluntary retirement account, Department contribution matches up to3% Insurance: Medical Currently through Blue Cross BlueShield PPOHSA$5,000:The Department covers 100% of the employeepremiumand 90% of thefamily. The department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account. Dental and Vision Currently throughGuardian The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family. Short- and Long-Term Disability Currently throughGuardian The Department pays 100% of the premium. Life Insurance - $50,000 policy The Department pays 100% of the premium. Supplemental Insurance: The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee. Essential Job Functions - Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with DepartmentStandardOperatingGuidelines,includingBulletins,Memos,Safetyguidelines, Personnel Handbook and Chief’sOrders. Key Responsibilities: In collaboration with the Battalion Chief of Suppression Training, supervise and coordinate the Fire Suppression Hiring and Orientation Program, including curriculum development and instructor scheduling Coordinate and supervise Fire Suppression new hire Physical Agility Testing (PAT) Manage and coordinate training prop utilization schedules and maintenance activities Develop, revise, and maintain training objectives, lesson plans, performance standards, training aids, and instructional props Develop curriculum and course materials for classroom, blended learning, and online instructional delivery platforms Conduct classroom instruction, practical skills evaluations, live-fire training evolutions, and competency-based assessments Write and administer written examinations and implement additional evaluation methodologies Research and integrate current fire service information, standards, and best practices into training curriculum and instructional materials Assist the Battalion Chief of Suppression Training with development of annual training plans and departmental training schedules Supervise department personnel during training events, drills, and practical evolutions Maintain training records, certifications, reports, and compliance documentation for suppression personnel Complete supply requests, maintenance requests, and applicable purchase requisitions for approval Serve as lead instructor for various fire service training courses and certification programs Ensure training props, equipment, and facilities are maintained in safe working condition Promote firefighter safety and compliance during all training operations Prepare reports, correspondence, and administrative documentation as required Represent the department during meetings, training committees, and collaborative initiatives Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications: Minimum 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent Eight (8) years of experience as a career firefighter or ten (10) years of active participation as a volunteer firefighter with an organized fire department or combination department Minimum three (3) year of direct instructional experience in the fire service; five (5) years preferred Minimum three (3) year as a company officer or equivalent supervisory experience preferred Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or uni
