Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Tank Builder/Welder to join our team. This position is responsible for the fabrication, erection, repair, and maintenance of above-ground storage tanks and other heavy steel structures. The ideal candidate has experience with structural steel welding, tank construction, blueprint reading, rigging, and working safely in industrial environments.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong welding skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a crew while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
- Monday- Thursday: 5AM to 3:30PM
- $25-$30 DOE
Essential Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, erect, repair, and modify above-ground storage tanks and steel structures.
- Perform stick (SMAW), flux core (FCAW), and submerged arc welding in accordance with project specifications.
- Perform arc cutting, torch cutting, gouging, and metal preparation.
- Read and interpret detailed fabrication drawings, erection drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Plan and execute proper fit-up, welding, repair, and tank construction sequences.
- Operate generators, compressors, grinders, blowers, tuggers, and other power and pneumatic tools.
- Safely use hydraulic jacks, hoists, come-alongs, winches, air bags, and other lifting equipment.
- Operate tank shell buggies, tank scaffolding, ladders, and specialty construction equipment.
- Perform non-destructive quality testing including vacuum box testing, oil testing, and dye penetrant inspections.
- Safely operate forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and man lifts.
- Perform rigging, signaling, and assist with crane operations.
- Complete Job Safety Analyses (JSA), participate in safety meetings, audits, and required site-specific training.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and crew members to complete projects safely and on schedule.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in tank building, structural welding, or heavy industrial construction.
- Experience welding with:
- 7018 Stick (SMAW)
- 7024 Stick
- 6010 Stick
- Flux Core (FCAW)
- Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Knowledge of API tank construction or similar heavy steel fabrication is preferred.
- Experience using industrial hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.
- Knowledge of rigging practices and crane signaling.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including respirators, fall protection, and other safety equipment.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
