Job Description

This 3rd shift Maintenance Technician role focuses on monitoring and maintaining production machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. The position requires strong hands-on skills, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret technical documentation while working overnight hours.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor production machine operation during 3rd shift to identify malfunctions, abnormalities, or performance issues.
  • Adjust machines to proper, documented specifications to maintain product quality and equipment reliability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to the scheduled maintenance plan to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain the workshop in a clean, orderly manner in accordance with 5S principles, ensuring tools and work areas are organized and safe.
  • Keep tools and shop equipment clean, calibrated where applicable, and in good working order.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times for both general tasks and specialized job functions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams to understand system functions and troubleshoot issues.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems on production equipment.
  • Perform industrial maintenance and machine repair, including mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and component replacement.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment, using PLC troubleshooting techniques as needed.
  • Prepare accurate reports and complete work orders, documenting work performed, parts used, and findings.
  • Record and report hours worked per job completed in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Use typical office software tools for communication, preparing work instructions, documenting maintenance activities, and accessing technical information.
  • Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while working on equipment.
  • Support production workers by responding promptly to equipment issues and helping minimize production interruptions.
  • Perform basic math calculations related to measurements, tolerances, and maintenance tasks.
  • Lift, move, and handle components and tools weighing up to 30–50 lbs as required by the job.
  • Stand for up to 8 hours per shift while performing maintenance and production support activities.
  • Suit up in required production-area attire and PPE when entering and working in production areas.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, repetitive environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in maintenance repair and industrial maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical skills, including mechanical troubleshooting and machine repair.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • PLC troubleshooting skills for diagnosing issues on automated equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of typical office software for communication and documentation.
  • Ability to perform basic math accurately for measurements and calculations.
  • High school diploma.
  • Two years of applicable trade school or college, five years of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift in a fast-paced, repetitive work environment.
  • Ability to lift 30–50 lbs safely as part of daily tasks.
  • Comfort working overnight on a 3rd shift schedule.
  • Consistent use of appropriate PPE, including the ability to suit up for production areas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with 5S principles and their application in a maintenance workshop.
  • Experience supporting production workers and operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort with hands-on troubleshooting and repair of both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Steel-toe or composite safety shoes, worn during shift and for interviews.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation when completing work orders and reports.
  • Ability to follow established preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with production and maintenance teams.
