The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing equipment and facilities within a food manufacturing environment. This position involves a combination of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and hygienic working environment.

Compensation for this role is based on experience up to $45.00 per hour plus shift differential.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on production machinery, including conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and refrigeration systems.
  • Conduct inspections, lubrication, and adjustments to ensure equipment operates efficiently and meets production requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Respond promptly and provide emergency unscheduled troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment during the manufacturing process to prevent disruptions to production.
  • Facility Maintenance:
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the production area, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards and food safety regulations.
  • Monitor and repair facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, to support a safe and comfortable working environment.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment inspections, and inventory management.
  • Document equipment repairs, parts replacements, and maintenance procedures to track equipment history and performance.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Coordinate with production supervisors and operators to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and safety personnel, to address maintenance issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to production staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education/Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Technical school education, preferred.
  • 5 years’ related experience in industrial manufacturing environment, preferably in an automated food processing plant.
  • 5 years’ experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and mechanical systems.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform electrical troubleshooting/repairs on PLC, relay logic and logic controllers, 480v, 220v, 110v AC single/three phase and DC systems.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, including motors, drives, and industrial sensors.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to electrical and control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and learn new technologies as needed.
  • Ability to perform mechanical repairs that include hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to operate a computer to support and record documentation in our computer maintenance management system.

Working Conditions And Physical Effort

  • Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
  • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, forklifts, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, communicable diseases.
