Academic Year: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (Flexible)

Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am - 6pm

South Mountain Community College (SMCC) reflects the diversity of the surrounding community, a rich mix of rural, urban, and suburban neighborhoods. Many of our students arrive from Phoenix, Laveen, Tempe, Guadalupe, and the surrounding area to attend classes at the main campus or our offsite facility in Guadalupe; we also offer evening courses in Laveen at Betty Fairfax High School.

Of the approximately 5,000 students enrolled at SMCC nearly 70 percent were first-generation college students and 48 percent intended to transfer to a university to further their education. Job Summary

The Counseling and Behavioral Science Administrative Support Specialist is a Federal Work-Study student position that provides administrative support to the Counseling Services and Behavioral Sciences Division at South Mountain Community College.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist with general office operations and administrative tasks.

Organize and maintain files, records, and resource materials.

Prepare materials for meetings, events, and special projects.

Support student outreach, engagement, and program communications.

Assist with flyers, forms, spreadsheets, and data entry.

Provide clerical support to Counseling Services and the Behavioral Sciences program.

Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and student-centered environment.

Important Information

This position is administrative in nature and does not provide counseling, advising, crisis intervention, or academic decision-making.

Work is performed under the supervision of college faculty and staff.

Adherence to college policies regarding confidentiality, professionalism, student records, and workplace conduct is required.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.

FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.

FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.

The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.
