Role Description The Senior Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Maryland Heights, MO. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries. The Senior Accountant prepares and reviews financial statements, manages day to day cash flow and a working cash flow forecast, supports budgeting and forecasting, and monitors job cost accounting for paving and maintenance projects. Daily tasks include analyzing variances, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies, and coordinating with operations leadership on financial performance. The role also involves improving internal controls, assisting with audits and tax filings, and providing clear financial reporting and guidance to management.
Qualifications
- Ability to manage core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business decisions.
- Strong skills in job costing, project accounting, and tracking expenses and revenue for service or construction-related work.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
- Knowledge of GAAP and comfort working with auditors, tax preparers, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operations, leadership, and administrative teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or similar certification is a plus.
- Previous experience in construction, paving, or field-service industries is preferred but not required.
