Landscape Architect / Designer
Grand Rapids based design firm is looking for a talented Landscape Architect / Designer with 5+ years of experience to join their dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a wide range of innovative landscape architecture projects, from urban design and public spaces to residential and commercial developments. The ideal candidate will have a strong design sensibility, a passion for sustainable practices, and experience managing projects from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Development: Collaborate with senior staff to develop comprehensive site design solutions for a variety of project types, including site master planning, urban parks, plazas, streetscapes, athletic facilities, green infrastructure, and private landscapes.
- Project Management: Assist in managing project timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure client goals are met.
- Site Analysis & Planning: Conduct site analysis, research, and feasibility studies, including review of zoning and municipal codes for summarizing relevant criteria. Prepare site plans, grading plans, planting plans, and other design documents.
- Construction Documentation & Detailing: Produce high-quality construction documents, including detailed plans, specifications, and material selections. Coordinate with civil engineers and advance site grading and hardscape design solutions.
- Client Interaction: Build and maintain relationships with clients, present design concepts, and provide updates on project status.
- Sustainability & Innovation: Incorporate sustainable design practices into projects, such as stormwater management, native plantings, and energy-efficient solutions.
- Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with junior team members, providing guidance and support in their professional development. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, urban planners, municipal officials and engineers.
- Professional Development: Stay current with industry trends, codes, and best practices. Attend workshops, conferences, and pursue additional certifications as relevant.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
- Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in landscape architecture, with a proven portfolio of design work and successful project completions.
- Skills:
- Strong proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, and/or Revit.
- Excellent graphic presentation and communication skills.
- Knowledge of landscape construction techniques and plant materials.
- Familiarity with local zoning codes, environmental regulations, and sustainable design standards.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize tasks for multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Certifications:
- Licensed Landscape Architect (or in the process of obtaining licensure).
- LEED accreditation or similar sustainability certification is a plus.
