Job Title: Welder and Fabricator
Job Description
This role focuses on welding and fabricating large steel tanks using flux core dual shield processes and detailed blueprints. You will perform structural steel welding in multiple positions, complete a hands-on weld test, and contribute to high-quality fabrication work in a steel yard environment.
Responsibilities
- Weld large steel tanks ranging from approximately 1/4 inch thickness using flux core dual shield welding processes.
- Interpret and work from detailed blueprints to complete welding and fabrication assignments accurately.
- Perform flux core dual shield welding using primarily .045 wire, with occasional use of 1/16 inch wire when required.
- Weld in multiple positions, including 2G horizontal, 3G vertical, and 4G overhead, to meet structural and quality requirements.
- Complete a weld test involving an open root with back grind on 1/2 inch plate: weld one side, grind it, flip the plate, and repeat the process on the opposite side.
- Execute structural steel flux core welding on tanks and related components to meet production and safety standards.
- Carry out fabrication tasks such as fitting, aligning, and preparing materials prior to welding.
- Use basic hand tools, including adjustable wrenches, wonder bar or pry bar, 3 lb and 5 lb mallets, tape measure, and chipping hammer, to support welding and fabrication work.
- Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making corrections as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Collaborate with team members and follow instructions to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of flux core welding experience with demonstrated proficiency in structural applications.
- Recent hands-on experience with dual shield flux core welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately for welding and fabrication work.
- Proficiency welding in 2G horizontal, 3G vertical, and 4G overhead positions.
- Capability to pass a weld test involving open root with back grind on 1/2 inch plate, including welding one side, grinding, flipping, and welding the opposite side.
- Experience with flux core structural steel welding, particularly on tanks or similar large fabrications.
- Competence using .045 wire for flux core dual shield welding, with the flexibility to use 1/16 inch wire when required.
- Basic fabrication skills, including fitting, measuring, and preparing steel components.
- Ability to safely and effectively use basic tools such as adjustable wrenches, wonder bar or pry bar, 3 lb and 5 lb mallets, tape measure, and chipping hammer.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience welding in open root configurations with back grinding.
- Background in working within a steel fabrication or structural steel environment.
- Familiarity with additional welding processes, including TIG welding, is beneficial but not required for this role.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively in a production-oriented setting.
