Social Worker Job Description

The Albuquerque Sign Language Academy (ASLA) is in search of a passionate Full-time, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who is dedicated to integrating clinical practices to bring out the best learners that students can be.

Applicants must embrace an inclusive, hands‑on, and active approach to coaching students in addressing their own behaviors. Learning ASL, improving upon one’s abilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary academic teams, and willingness to be creative in working with all levels of student abilities is essential.

As one of the most innovative educational programs in the nation, the Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is an award‑winning, nationally recognized, ASL/English dual language school that provides deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students and families access to a 21st‑century education that incorporates American Sign Language (ASL) and English in an inclusive environment. All ASLA students—whether hearing, deaf, or in need of ASL to communicate—learn in ways that better connect them to their family and community.

Overview of Social Work at ASLA

  • Manageable caseload that is supported by the social work team in collaboration with teachers and ancillary staff.
  • Interactive and engaged advisory system where social workers partner with teachers to support the social emotional needs of their students in connection to parents.
  • Collaborative approach to school‑wide support inclusive of both developmental, behavioral, cultural, and academic needs.
  • Modified year‑round schedule that embeds a two‑week break in the fall, winter, and spring, in addition to six weeks for summer vacation.
  • Clinical supervision provided by a board‑approved supervisor for those needing approved hours to obtain a clinical social work license (LCSW) at no cost to the supervisee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Public Education Department (PED) Social Work License (we have office staff well equipped to assist in PED licensure).
  • Functional/proficient use of American Sign Language (or willingness to learn).
