Position Summary/Objective

The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery used in construction, maintenance, and excavation projects. This role involves working closely with site supervisors and other construction personnel to complete tasks efficiently, safely, and according to project specifications. Equipment Operators must have a strong understanding of machinery operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.

Principal/Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials using trucks, crawler tractors, shovels, graders, or related equipment

Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines

Locate underground services such as pipes and wires prior to beginning work

Align machines with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers

Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members

Take action to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects

Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met

Qualifications

Required

Preferred

Minimum of 3 years of experience running, maneuvering, driving, and navigating equipment such as bulldozer, excavators, rollers, and front-end loaders preferred

Must be 18 years in age or older

Must pass pre-employment drug screen

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Ability to work overtime and flexible hours (day/night/weekends)

Ability to work outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions

Ability to communicate with others to convey information effectively

Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials

Demonstrate attention to details

Knowledgeable of safety procedures and practices

Good verbal communication skills to interact with supervisors and coworkers effectively.

Ability to follow instructions and provide feedback as needed.

Work Environment

Work is primarily conducted outdoors on construction sites, exposed to various weather conditions and terrain.

The role may involve working in confined spaces or at heights.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests when on-site.
