The EMPOWER Project is a Goodwill Industries of South Florida AmeriCorps program that helps individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment prepare for and secure competitive, integrated jobs. Serving Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the program combines job readiness training, career exploration, mentoring, and hands-on workplace experiences to support long-term economic self-sufficiency. AmeriCorps members provide individualized, high-touch support through classroom instruction, peer mentoring, job coaching, and employment navigation. Participants receive 60-120 hours of training focused on soft skills, workplace ethics, communication, and career planning, along with structured workplace rotations and job shadowing opportunities that connect learning to real-world experience. The program is designed to address systemic barriers such as limited access to training, lack of accommodations, and employer hesitation. By partnering with local businesses, social enterprises, and community organizations, EMPOWER creates inclusive pathways to employment while strengthening participants' confidence, independence, and job readiness. Each year, the program serves 180 individuals, with a goal of at least 85% demonstrating improved job readiness. Through personalized support and community collaboration, the EMPOWER Project helps participants overcome employment barriers and move toward lasting economic stability and independence.
