School Nurse (Licensed Practical Nurse) - Hayward, CA

Seeking a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse for a rewarding contract opportunity supporting medically fragile students in an educational setting near Hayward, CA. This full-time, full school year role averages 30 hours per week and operates as an itinerant position, rotating between campuses and providing vital 1:1 care to students with complex medical needs.

Desired qualifications and experience:

  • Current LVN or LPN license in California
  • Demonstrated experience in a school or pediatric setting
  • Previous background caring for medically fragile individuals, including those with ASD or developmental delays
  • Proficiency with gastronomy care, bladder catheterization, diabetes management (including insulin administration, CGM, and carbohydrate counting), as well as managing hypo- and hyperglycemia
  • Skilled in emergency medication administration (e.g., EpiPens, Benadryl)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, comfortable training staff and connecting with parents
  • Flexibility to travel between campuses and provide support as needed
  • Bilingual Spanish skills highly valued, though not required

Primary responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular reviews of seizure and health care plans for assigned students
  • Train staff on medical procedures and protocols to ensure safe, informed student care
  • Liaise with parents for health updates and to build strong, collaborative relationships
  • Provide timely response to urgent health needs and assist directly in student care when required
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care provided, medication administration, and student progress

Experience working in K-12 school environments is a must. Interviews for this opening take place onsite at the district office, providing a chance to meet educational partners and discuss the unique needs of this community.
