School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT)
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Shift: Days – 5x8s
Contract Length: 13 or 26 weeks (26 preferred) – ASAP Start
Pay: $60/hour
About the Opportunity
Join a supportive and collaborative school district team in Bakersfield, CA as a School-Based Occupational Therapist! This role is ideal for an experienced OT passionate about helping students reach their fullest potential in academic and functional performance. You’ll work with a diverse caseload of school-aged children, providing therapy services both in-person and remotely across multiple school sites.
Key Responsibilities
•
Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine eligibility for school-based OT services.
•
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and IEP goals.
•
Collaborate closely with teachers, families, and IEP teams to ensure student success.
•
Provide direct therapy services to students in accordance with established goals and frequency.
•
Document sessions, progress, and communications accurately and timely.
•
Supervise COTAs, aides, and student interns as required.
•
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to IEP development.
•
Educate staff, families, and caregivers on student needs and therapy strategies.
•
Ensure all services comply with California Occupational Therapy Practice Act and AOTA standards.
Essential Duties
•
Conduct age-appropriate evaluations and utilize standardized testing methods.
•
Maintain effective communication with school staff and families.
•
Manage a caseload of approximately 10 students per day.
•
Adapt therapy techniques to meet the individual needs of each student.
•
Assist in the creation and customization of adaptive equipment and materials.
•
Maintain organized documentation and billing accuracy.
Qualifications
•
Active California OT License required.
•
Previous school-based OT experience required.
•
Strong clinical, communication, and documentation skills.
•
Knowledge of IEP processes and collaboration within educational teams.
•
Familiarity with early intervention strategies and working with students with autism or other disabilities.
•
Experience supervising COTAs preferred.
