Classification:Non-Exempt (Hourly, eligible for overtime)Reports To:Lead Line Cook / General ManagerLocation:Denver, ColoradoPosition OverviewThe Line Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and plating menu items for Velvet Lasso's cafe and lounge. This role focuses on consistency, quality, and efficiency across all service periods. Working under the direction of the Lead Line Cook and General Manager, the Line Cook supports smooth kitchen operations through disciplined preparation, strong teamwork, and attention to detail.This position requires clear communication, time management, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Line Cooks contribute directly to guest experience by ensuring food is prepared to standard and served on time, every time.Primary ResponsibilitiesProduction & Service ExecutionPrepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes, portioning, and presentation standards.Maintain consistency and timing across service to meet guest expectations.Manage assigned stations, including setup, restocking, and breakdown.Monitor food quality, temperature, and safety throughout service.Follow proper storage, labeling, and rotation practices (FIFO) to maintain product integrity.Communicate effectively with kitchen, bar, and service staff to ensure accurate and timely ticket flow.Prep & Operational SupportExecute prep lists, batch cooking, and daily mise en place as directed by the Lead Line Cook or General Manager.Assist with inventory checks and ingredient restocking.Report low stock items, equipment issues, or quality concerns promptly.Support cafe and lounge transitions, ensuring readiness for each service period.Follow sanitation procedures for equipment, utensils, and workspaces.Team Collaboration & TrainingParticipate in shift huddles, menu tastings, and staff meetings as scheduled to stay aligned with team goals and product standards.Participate in zone training to understand responsibilities and expectations within kitchen and service zones.Support cross-team collaboration between kitchen, bar, and bakery departments.Maintain a professional, respectful attitude during high-volume service.Contribute to a positive, solution-oriented kitchen culture.Ad Hoc & Special ProjectsSupport community dinners, pop-ups, and brand-aligned events.Participate in deep-clean initiatives and kitchen organization days.Perform additional tasks within the scope of the role as assigned to meet evolving business needs.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Food quality, consistency, and accuracyTicket timing and communication during serviceCompliance with sanitation and food safety standardsTeam collaboration and reliabilityCompletion of assigned prep and station dutiesQualificationsMinimum 2-3 years of professional kitchen experience; high-volume or cafe experience preferred.Strong understanding of basic cooking techniques, food safety, and station management.Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent execution under pressure.Excellent teamwork and communication skills.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a hot, fast-paced environment.Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business requires.Work Environment & ScheduleThis role operates primarily in the kitchen and line environments, supporting both caf and lounge service.Full-time or part-time hours may be scheduled based on business needs, including flexibility for events or seasonal menu changes.Brand Representation & Media ParticipationEmployees at Velvet Lasso contribute to the company's public-facing brand through their craft, teamwork, and presence in the workplace. From time to time, photography or video content may be captured in production areas or during community events to highlight the team and the creative process. Staff may appear in such materials as part of normal business operations.Employees with specific privacy concerns should discuss accommodations with the General Manager prior to hire or onboarding.Compensation & AdvancementThis is a non-exempt hourly position eligible for overtime. Compensation starts at $19.50 an hour and will be determined based on experience, skill level, and internal equity within Velvet Lasso's pay structure.This role is classified as a back-of-house (BOH) position and is not eligible to participate in tip pooling or receive direct gratuities.
