Description
Gives nursing care under the supervision of the RN. Serves the general patient population hospitalized for various causes, such as illness, surgery, testing, rehabilitation, or observation. Responsible for observing and reporting signs, symptoms, and conditions of patients under their care. Under supervision, may perform nursing procedures defined by certification and within hospital standards of care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists all patients with activities of daily living while supporting maximum independence of each patient.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to any age-related needs of the patients served.
Possess the emotional stability to cope with death and unusual occurrences and conditions. Remain calm and sympathetic as they perform their duties.
Reports signs, symptoms, and conditions of patients under their care.
Reports safety problems and makes recommendations.
Maintains skills and knowledge through participation in educational programs, seminars & workshops and reading professional journals.
Completes mandatory Kahuku Medical Center online competencies, and departmental competencies.
Assist in orientation of new personnel.
Complies with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures, safety program requirements, corporate compliance program standards of conduct, and all applicable statutes, rules, and regulations.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Required Knowledge/ S kills/Abilities
- The certified nurse assistant must possess knowledge about healthcare in general and on specific levels to provide quality care to patients of all ages.
- Must be prepared to treat a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, ranging from a fever to a heart attack.
- Must possess knowledge about med surg nursing in general and in relation to appropriate care.
- Ability to learn electronic medical record systems and documentation.
- Ability to comply with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Strong time management skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
Education and Experience
REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFRRED:
- One year healthcare experience.
Physical Requirements
- Long periods of standing and walking.
- Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, and sitting.
- Continuous use of vision (corrected vision, depth perception, wide field of vision and color vision)
- Pushing and pulling up to 300 lbs.
- Lifting with assistance up to 150 lbs.
- Carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to converse, read, write, understand, and instruct in English.
- Continuous attention to detail, concentration, and alertness, with frequent mathematical ability.
- Exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
- Ability to handle difficult situations regarding patients, visitor, healthcare personnel, etc.
