Job Description

The purpose of this position is to "seek to bring forth and establish the cause of Zion."

This is a working lead responsible for leading others in keeping assigned buildings (offices, temples, chapels, seminary buildings or other facilities) in clean, sanitized, and orderly condition. May be assigned to help with grounds, special events, or other manual labor duties.

Responsibilities

  • Employee performance management, including evaluations, feedback, and the development of improvement plans
  • Coordinating daily work of 8-14 employees, usually consisting of the following responsibilities:
  • Clean offices, restrooms, public areas, etc. as instructed including fixtures such as sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, mirrors, air vents, furniture, equipment, windowsills, walls, etc.
  • Operate mechanized cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, large scrubbers and sweepers, power washers, and extraction equipment, etc.
  • Operate balers, shredders, aerial lifts, and forklifts
  • Window and building exterior cleaning
  • Sanitize areas, furnishings, or fixtures as instructed
  • Wet or damp mop floors
  • Dust or polish furnishings, light fixtures, windowsills, wood paneling, etc.
  • Shampoo carpets, rugs, and upholstery
  • Renovate and renew surfaces
  • Hang curtains or drapes
  • Dispose of trash, waste, and other materials
  • Restock supplies
  • Move furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment
  • Leaf or snow removal
  • Perform minor repairs
  • Report safety or security issues and needed repairs
  • Perform other duties and attend meetings as assigned
  • Teaching, training, and modeling processes, procedures, and practices
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training for assigned team
  • Motivating, building, and developing team members
  • Creating a culture of safety within assigned group
  • Responsible for the general safety of their team, including training, policy compliance, safety incident response and reporting
  • Conduct team meetings, trainings, and participate in leadership councils
  • Verify service standards are maintained for their assigned areas
  • Occasionally oversee custodial team and work on weekends, holidays, and during events (in addition to weekday assignments)
  • On call responsibilities may be required
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Autonomy

  • Perform work under minimal supervision.
  • Perform self-directed work while handling complex issues; refers only the most complicated issues to higher-level staff.

Leadership or Supervision of Others

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to others.
  • Responsible for employee performance management and training.
  • Organize and assign work of subordinates.
  • Responsible for crew safety.
  • Complete administrative paperwork as necessary.
  • Maintain good public relations.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of subject matter
  • Able to utilize technology to meet the administrative needs of the position and increase productivity and efficiency
  • Ability to efficiently lead and motivate work in a team orientated work group, while providing feedback, performance improvement opportunities, and employee training and development
  • Must certify in the use of any needed equipment (sweepers, buffers, lifts, carpet cleaning machinery, high rise power washers, etc.) as part of new hire training
  • Must certify through the Cleaning Management Institute with the International Sanitary Supply as part of new hire training
  • Able to understand basic instructions, complete basic tasks, and handle basic issues and problems
  • Must be capable of effective oral and written communication, and able to ask clarifying questions as needed
  • Must be able to read and write English to meet the administrative needs of the position and effectively train others
  • Able to independently lift and position objects weighing as much as 50 pounds as well as the ability to team lift and position objects weighing as much as 100 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Able to complete all physical requirements of custodial work, i.e., pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, etc.
  • Able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and mechanical lifts for extended periods of time
  • May be required to work outside during all seasons, temperatures, and types of weather
  • Must comply with all regulations associated with the handling of chemicals
  • Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years related work experience
  • Previous Church custodial work experience
  • Previous leadership experience
