Location: Worcester, MA
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Days (4x10s)
Weekly Pay: $3,000 Gross (40 hours)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CVOR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support cardiovascular surgical procedures in a fast-paced operating room environment. The CST will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to ensure safe, efficient, and sterile surgical procedures, with a focus on open-heart and vascular cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields for cardiovascular surgical procedures
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and supplies
- Anticipate surgical needs, particularly in complex CVOR cases
- Handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies with precision
- Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy
- Ensure proper functioning of CVOR equipment (e.g., heart-lung machines, specialized instrumentation as applicable)
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety standards
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required (NBSTSA or NCCT)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required (AHA)
- State Licensure (if applicable in MA) – Not required for CSTs in Massachusetts, but must meet hospital credentialing standards
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years of recent CVOR experience required
- Demonstrated experience assisting in cardiovascular and open-heart procedures
- Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile techniques
- Ability to work efficiently in high-acuity, fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with major cardiac cases (CABG, valve replacement, etc.)
- Travel experience preferred
- Familiarity with advanced CVOR technologies and procedures
