Location: Worcester, MA

Contract Length: 13 Weeks

Shift: Days (4x10s)

Weekly Pay: $3,000 Gross (40 hours)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced CVOR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support cardiovascular surgical procedures in a fast-paced operating room environment. The CST will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to ensure safe, efficient, and sterile surgical procedures, with a focus on open-heart and vascular cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields for cardiovascular surgical procedures
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and supplies
  • Anticipate surgical needs, particularly in complex CVOR cases
  • Handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies with precision
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy
  • Ensure proper functioning of CVOR equipment (e.g., heart-lung machines, specialized instrumentation as applicable)
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety standards
  • Collaborate effectively with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required (NBSTSA or NCCT)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required (AHA)
  • State Licensure (if applicable in MA) – Not required for CSTs in Massachusetts, but must meet hospital credentialing standards

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of recent CVOR experience required
  • Demonstrated experience assisting in cardiovascular and open-heart procedures
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile techniques
  • Ability to work efficiently in high-acuity, fast-paced environments
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with major cardiac cases (CABG, valve replacement, etc.)
  • Travel experience preferred
  • Familiarity with advanced CVOR technologies and procedures
